Luau Launches School Year

By Mia Speier ‘18

On Saturday August 26th, the Immaculate Heart High School community came together on the quad to celebrate the back-to-school season in Luau fashion.

The High School Athletics Department, along with the help of Girls Athletic Association members and parent helpers, put on a spectacular luau that hosted over 400 attendees. The event, which showcased fun games and activities, such as the infamous Dunk Tank, a Hawaiian-themed photo booth, limbo contest, and much more, was a big hit, raising over $4,500 dollars for the school’s athletic program.

Friends and family of Immaculate Heart students ate hotdogs and hamburgers, enjoyed various drinks (the virgin pina colada seemed to be a student favorite), and took delight in each other’s’ company as the beautiful decorations of string lights and tiki-themed items, set up by helpers prior to the event, surrounded the quad.

A big highlight of the luau had to have been the show that was put on by the Hawaiian Manea Dancers. For about an hour, amazing music played from the quad and dancers dressed in various types of traditional Hawaiian dance outfits performed for attendees sitting on the grass and enjoying their dinner.

Overall, the event was a great way to kick off the start of the year, especially for families and students who are new to the IH community!
