Lianna Nakashima, currently a senior at Immaculate Heart High School, won acceptance to the highly competitive dance program at CSSSA – California State Summer School for the Arts. CSSSA annually provides a select number of California high school students of the visual, literary, performing, and media arts with an intensive learning experience conducted by distinguished arts professionals.
For four weeks this summer, Lianna lived in the dormitory at California Institute of the Arts and attended the rigorous college-level program. Chaired by Sylvia Palmer and Gregory Dawson, the dance program emphasized ballet, modern, composition, pilates and injury prevention classes from 9 am to 9 pm, 6 days a week. Lianna earned three college semester units and received the “2013 California Arts Scholar” recognition. She intends to pursue a double major in dance and kinesiology in college.
Lianna has been a member of the Senior Company at San Marino Dance Academy since 2009 and has performed with the company at Luckman Fine Arts Complex, Disney World Orlando and Disneyland Anaheim. In addition to attending CSSSA, she spent two weeks this summer at the Joffrey West intensive dance program at California State University Northridge.
